4 Week: Intro to Botanical Dyes

class size is limited to 6 students

In this four week course you will learn:

-scouring fabric

-mordanting

-shibori resist

-immersion dyeing

-working with fresh dye plants

-pigments and dried dye stuffs

-exhaust baths

-modifying with ph

-starting or enhancing a dye journal

Students will dye a collection of small sample swatches of fabrics in silk, wool, cotton and linen for their dye journals. Each student will complete three personalized dye projects; a silk scarf, a cotton shawl and a cotton bandana.
